DRIF’s Carnival for a Cure Dishes Out a Jam-Packed Day of Fun for Kids…and Grown Ups Too

New York, NY (February 7, 2012) – Guests of the seventh annual Carnival for a Cure, benefiting the Diabetes Research Institute, can expect another whirlwind of family fun and festivities at the Metropolitan Pavilion (125 W. 18th St.) on Sunday, March 11,2012 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.  Widely known as the event Nick Jonas revealed he has type 1 diabetes, NYC’s largest indoor carnival promises to be another spectacular afternoon, with WCBS-TV News Anchor Chris Wragge serving as emcee and Chef Dave Martin, Top Chef Alumnus, presiding over a special tasting table and more.

“This is our first year participating in Carnival for a Cure, and I just can’t wait to see the smile on my kids’ faces.  Even better, I know that every dollar we raise goes to the Diabetes Research Institute,” said Meredith Buchwald, who is co-chairing the event along with her husband, Scott Buchwald, and Sabrina and Scott Chosed.  “I’ll do anything to find a cure for my daughter, and this event allows the kids to feel like they’re part of finding the cure, too.”

Racing from one activity to the next, kids will enjoy a slew of the most sought-after games like Gladiator Joust, Micro Reality Race Track, Bungee Bull, a karaoke machine, Guitar Hero and other arcade games, 7 x 7 foosball and Ultimate Gaga in the Gaga Pit.  In between, they can catch a magic trick by roaming performers, laugh at clowns, get faces painted or participate in arts and crafts.

While kids run wild, parents can roam the silent auction, featuring several exclusive offerings such as a chance to have “Elmo” from Sesame Street leave a personalized voicemail for your child, tickets to Broadway shows like Sister Act and Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Pinkalicious branded items, high-end hotel stays, sports packages, jewelry and more.

And what’s a carnival without food?  Offering something for everyone, the event will feature fare from Bridgewaters & Twenty Four Fifth, La Esquina and food truck Sweetery NYC; Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs, Pretzel Crisps®, popchips and organic Clif Bars; items from Trader Joe’s, Edible Arrangements and Fresh Direct; and tasting tables hosted by Cabot Creamery and Hillside Candy, manufacturers of GoLightly sugar-free candy.  Wash it down with beverages by Honest Tea and water sponsor, WAT-AAH!

Generous sponsors include, but are not limited to, Roller Coaster sponsors Natalie and Harry Olstein; Game/Prize Booth Sponsors Leslie Hsu and Greg Besner, Julia Gardner and the Douglas B. Gardner Foundation, Leslie and Ricardo Salmon, Holly and David Sherr, Denise and Tom Stern and Brett and Daniel Sundheim; and Bumper Car Sponsors Cheryl and David Bunzel, Carolyn and Marc Goldfarb, and Amy and Jimmy Haber.
