It is with great pleasure that the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation (DRIF) announces that Dr. Camillo Ricordi, the Director of the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine since 1993, will advance to a new leadership role. His unheralded success in translational pancreatic islets and stem cell research towards a cure for Type 1 Diabetes has tremendously increased the time demands on his professional life. He has therefore decided to decrease his administrative responsibilities at the DRI in order to increase the time available for his collaborative global research efforts.
In this new role, he will become the first recipient of the Ricordi Chair and continue in his leadership role of the DRI Federation. Dr. Ricordi will also continue to collaborate with his brilliant colleagues at the DRI in their quest to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. For all of us whose primary mission is to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes, there is no one to whom we owe more than Camillo. He has led us ever closer to the cure! The DRIF looks forward to continuing its support of Dr. Ricordi and his transformational research at the DRI and globally.
The University of Miami, in collaboration with the DRIF, has launched a worldwide search for an exemplary and innovative scientist who will become the next Director of the DRI, devoted to finding the cure for Type 1 Diabetes. That scientist will also be awarded the Stacy Joy Goodman Chair.
We thank all of you for your continued support of Dr. Ricordi and the DRIF.
Sincerely,
William J. Fishlinger
Chairman
