British Consul-General Completes 12 Races in 2012, Presents Check to DRIF

DRIF’s Deborah Chodrow and Robert A. Pearlman accept a check in the amount of $5,362 from Her Majesty’s British Consul-General Kevin McGurgan.
We’d like to offer a very special thank you to Kevin and everyone who supported his efforts!

Hollywood, FL (January 24, 2013) – Kevin McGurgan, who is the British Consul-General in Miami and a father of a child with type 1 diabetes, completed his mission to run 12 races in 2012 and raised more $5,000 for the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI).  With a reason to believe that the DRI will find a cure for his son and the millions of people living with diabetes, he decided this project would be a great way to raise funds and awareness.

Now in third grade, McGurgan’s son, Michael, 8, was diagnosed at age 2.  Occasionally, he has posed some heart-wrenching questions, “When will diabetes go away?  When will they find a cure?”

McGurgan decided he wasn’t going to wait around for those answers.  He aimed to help find a cure even faster by becoming a Diabetes Diplomat, and creating his own fundraiser for the DRI.  It’s the first time a foreign diplomat has become a Diabetes Diplomat!

How are you aiming for the cure?  “Don’t do nothing!” as DRI Foundation Vice President Tom Karlya always says.  Not sure how to get started?  Contact us now.
