Palm Beach Auxiliary Luncheon

February 27th, 2012

Fitting for the elegant ladies of the Palm Beach Auxiliary, the luxurious Polo Club of Boca Raton played host to the 13th annual A Gift of Love…A Gift of Hope event on February 27. According to Chairperson Renee Aronin, the sold-out affair raised more than $55,000 for the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) with a luncheon, boutique and card party.

Beginning at 10 am, shopping commenced in the private boutique. As 220 women arrived from throughout the Palm Beaches, they browsed beautiful jewelry, clothing, handbags, belts, make up, home accessories and more in a room brimming with fabulous items for sale by 16 vendors.

While enjoying a delicious lunch consisting of an array of soups, salads and delectable desserts, guests heard from Randi Fibus-Caster and her mother, Jeanne Fibus, both Boca Raton residents. With no memory of a being "normal," Randi told the audience about some of the obstacles she has had to overcome while living with type 1 diabetes for 50 years. She accredited her ability to do so to her supportive family, as well as a continuously positive attitude. Jeanne also addressed the crowd, saying that she has every reason to believe that the DRI is the best hope for a cure.

DRI Foundation COO Deborah Chodrow thanked everyone in attendance for supporting the cure-focused efforts of the DRI. Continuing the pleasurable afternoon, guests played games like Duplicate Bridge, Canasta, Mah Jong and Scrabble.

Born in 1998 with the mission to create awareness about diabetes and to help find a cure for it, the Palm Beach County Auxiliary has raised nearly $500,000 for the DRI. New members are always welcome. If you live in Palm Beach County and are interested in joining, please call the DRI Foundation at 800-321-3437.
