Haute Tea
Presented by the Young Society of Love and Hope and the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort, the second annual Haute Tea luncheon was the place to be on May 21 for South Floridians with a penchant for high fashion and philanthropy. 30th Anniversary Don Strock Diabetes Golf Classic
Presented once again by Miami Seaquarium, the Don Strock Diabetes Golf Classic has cumulatively raised $3 million for the DRI. Thanks to Tournament Host Don Strock and Chairman Bruce Fishbein, who founded the event 30 years ago, the event is one of South Florida’s longest running celebrity/amateur charity golf tournaments.

D.R.E.a.M.S. in the city
The Eighth Annual D.R.E.a.M.S. in the city event held on May 7, 2013 at The Pierre Hotel in New York City honored Kim Dickstein and Stacy Joy Goodman Memorial Foundation represented by trustees: Esther & Marc Goodman and Susan Winberg & Ken Shewer. The event was co-chaired by Samantha Shanken Baker, Diane Cohen, Bonnie Inserra, and Meryl Lieberman. |

The Crystal Ball
The annual and elegant Crystal Ball was held at the Garden City Hotel on Saturday, May 4, 2013. Thanks to the generosity of honoree Mr. Howard Rowland, Gillin Family Humanitarian Mr. Peter J. Klein, Presenting Sponsors Mr. & Mrs. Bruce Waller and DRI sponsors and supporters the event raised $555,000 for diabetes research.

Walk with Walgreens Family Fun Day and Health Fair
Walgreens reached $1 million in fundraising for the DRI with this third annual event, which was held at Sun Life Stadium and attracted more than 6,500 participants.

Cooking for a Cure
As it has been for the last ten years, this event was all about hope. Led by Delia DeRiggi-Whitton, the committee created another fabulous evening of gourmet delights at Page One Restaurant in Glen Cove, NY, on April 8.

Tons of fun was had at the 10th Annual Kids Party for a Cure on Long Island with Special Guest Carly Rose Sonenclar.

Carnival for a Cure The Eighth Annual Carnival for a Cure, took place at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City on Sunday, March 10, 2013. A very good time was had by all! Hundreds of families had loads of fun; enjoying great food, and wonderful activities from arts & crafts, spin art, gladiator joust, balloon art, a mechanical bull, and of course, prizes galore.

three D Dine, Drink, Discover
Led by Amy Greenwald, Jill Hirsch and Jillian Posner, the three D committee delivered on its promise to give guests an evening to Dine, Drink and Discover something new at the Rubell Family Collection on Friday, March 1. Their efforts, combined with the generosity of sponsors and more than 300 attendees, raised nearly $150,000 for the cure-focused work of the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI.)

39th Annual Love and Hope Ball
Led by Life Chairman Sonja Zuckerman and Executive Chairman Sandra Levy, the elegant ladies of Love and Hope succeeded once again in impressing 400+ guests with stunning décor and surprises at the 39th Annual Love and Hope Ball. Held February 2 at the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa, this extraordinary black-tie gala, combined with November’s Preview Party, raised more than $1 million.

Pleasures of the Palate
Returning to the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation benefit dinner he helped create more than 14 years ago, Chef Norman Van Aken effectively fulfilled the culinary wishes of more than 150 bon vivants at Pleasures of the Palate on January 13 at La Gorce Country Club. Thanks to his involvement, as well as the dedication of Event Chairs Tammy and Steven Klein, Wine Chairman Sue Gallagher, and other generous supporters, the evening produced in excess of $100,000 for the cure-focused work underway at the DRI.

Empire Ball
The always-elegant Empire Ball lit up the Grand Hyatt Hotel on Wednesday, December 12, 2012; raising over $1 million. Three distinguished real estate industry notables were feted that evening. (Photo l-r) The recipient of the Camillo Ricordi Humanitarian Award was Richard Wood, President of Plaza Construction. Jason D. Pizer, President and CEO of Trinity Real Estate, was presented with the Leadership Award. And Frank A. Freda, Executive Managing Director, Cushman & Wakefield, Inc. was bestowed the Distinguished Service Award.

Love and Hope Preview Party
Underwritten for the tenth consecutive year by Isabel May, the magnificent Love and Hope Preview Party kicked off the 39th season of fundraising for the fabulous ladies of Love and Hope. This hands-on, hardworking committee, led by Life Chairman Sonja Zuckerman and Executive Chairman Sandra Levy, raised nearly $400,000 for the cure-focused work of the Diabetes Research Insitute (DRI) at the Diplomat Country Club on November 17.

The fifth annual All in for a Cure Texas Hold ‘em poker event may have been the best one yet! This year’s event took place on Tuesday, November 13th, at The Grand Havana Room in midtown Manhattan.

E.R.A.S.E. Diabetes
Erin Berg Hager and Gary Edward Bailey, longtime friends, decided to celebrate their milestone birthdays with a Baroque Bash! And instead of gifts, they asked their friends and family members to make donations to the E.R.A.S.E. Diabetes Fund at the Diabetes Research Institute.

The Donaldson Organization Golf Outing
Ranked one of the top courses in the U.S. and the world by Golf Magazine, Winged Foot Golf Club played host to over 200 golfers on a crisp sunny day at The Donaldson Organization Golf Outing in Mamaroneck, NY. The annual event benefiting the DRI for the second year, honored Robert Gorton of Gorton & Partners, LLC and Peter Marchetto of Tishman Construction, and raised over $500,000.

Rod Gilbert DRI Golf Classic
The golf classic, held anually, is in memory of Anthony John Vitale and Helaine Shari White. This year, the committee was pleased to honor Sam Baretta, Executive Vice President, Continental Home Loans, Inc. Rod Gilbert, New York legend was at the event to support the DRI in its efforts to find a cure for type 1 diabetes.

For the 29th year, members of the produce industry, led by Bruce Fishbein, teamed up with Don Strock and other Miami Dolphins of past and present to support the DRI with a day of golf. Cumulative proceeds have surpassed $2.5 million!

Randi Fibus-Caster Pro Am Diabetes Golf Classic
After amateurs played golf alongside pros at The Polo Club of Boca Raton, Chairpersons Jeanne and Ken Fibus invited nearly 200 guests to join them for a cocktail party and dinner. The event was named for their daughter who has lived with type 1 diabetes for 50 years.

On Friday, February 17, several very excited families descended upon Miami for their highly-anticipated tour of the Diabetes Research Institute. Among them was the Billetdeaux family – Laura, Neal, Carolyn, Sam and his girlfriend, Grace Grande-Cassell, whose grandfather, a physician, has had type 1 for most of his life. |

The Molly and Lindsey Invitational
The Molly and Lindsey Invitational took place at White Beeches Golf and Country Club in Haworth, NJ, on September 26. Honorees Molly Minicucci Phillips and Lindsey Inserra were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 9 and 11 respectively.

Key West Poker Run
Thirty-nine years ago, Phil Peterson came up with the idea of a poker run to boost the motorcycle business and the Key West tourist trade during the slow September season. What started with 46 riders has grown to become South Florida's biggest motorcycle party weekend of the year.

Wedding Veil Walk for a Cure
On Sunday, May 22, the “brides” and “grooms” were walking…but it wasn’t down the aisle! More than 100 walkers strolled through the magnificent Old Westbury Gardens and raised $4,600 for the DRI’s cure-focused research.

Now in its third year in South Florida, this popular event took families and friends on a Road Trip across the United States, while raising more than $130,000.

Presented by Marie and Michael Bianchini, An International Affair was held at Wycliffe Golf and Country Club in Lake Worth, FL, where more than 225 guests converged to jet-set around the world. Chairpersons Bob and Karen Cavanagh were delighted to announce that the event raised more than $154,000.

Topping off a decade of fundraising for the DRI, Andria Ares Holtz hosted this lovely luncheon, which for her was all about giving back to so many friends and relatives who have supported her family’s labor of love.

The Shell Key West Challenge celebrated a milestone on May 28 - 31 when cumulative proceeds surpassed $2 million at the 21st annual event. The Blaylock Family, who founded the event, is passionately committed to finding a cure for a very special member of the family - 9-year-old Matthew - and millions of other children and adults with diabetes.
