Her son, Thad, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as an infant.
How she helps
Since 2005, Brenda has been conducting an annual online auction to raise money for diabetes research. This year (2010), she surpassed the $1 million mark and also raised a record $285,780 -- with all proceeds going to the Diabetes Research Institute.
Why the DRI
“Touring the DRI was an amazing experience," she said. "It made me feel as if we are making tremendous strides toward a cure and reassured me that the Diabetes Research Institute is the best place to donate the money.
"Going to the DRI enabled me to assure my son that we will see a cure some day--and made me confident that it will be some day soon.”
